Police have solved a five-year-old murder case with the arrest of a man who was allegedly involved in an illicit relationship with his aunt.

"The accused has confessed to his crime and we will soon be filing a charge sheet in the court," police said, adding that a case has been registered against the accused Manga Ram, who was arrested yesterday.

On June 14, 2011, the victim identified as Neelam Devi, a resident of Miran Sahib in Jammu, was brought to the hospital by her nephew Manga Ram in a critical condition, where she eventually died, police said.

The accused had claimed that Neelam had met with a road accident, they said.

During investigation it was found that the victim was involved in an illicit relationship with her nephew. On June 13, 2011 the accused had found her in a compromising position with another man, following which he made a plan to kill her.

"He hatched a conspiracy to kill Neelam. He took her to a secluded place and started beating her with iron rods, seriously injuring her", police said, adding that he took her to the hospital afterwards.

The doctors treating her also said that the death was not due to an accident, as her postmortem revealed that she was repeatedly beaten by some blunt object, they said.
