Condemning the Sri Lankan Government for the recent arrest and harassment of Indian fishermen, Lawyers Association here decided to go on an indefinite strike from tomorrow.

The Centre should take necessary steps to get the release of the fishermen and their boats, arrested by the Lankan naval personnel two days ago, President of the Association R Saravanan said in a release here today.

The association also condemned the BJP leader Subramaniya swamy for advising the Sri Lankan Government to release only the fishermen and seize their boats.

Sri Lankan Navy allegedly sank an Indian fishing boat by colliding against it near Katchathivu and arrested 15 fishermen from here in separate incidents yesterday.

Referring to the arrest of the 15 fishermen, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa in her letter yesterday said, "Alarmingly increasing frequencies of apprehension of our fishermen by the Sri Lankan navy is a matter of utmost concern for my government. An immediate intervention at the highest level is sought to resolve this long standing issue", she said while urging Modi to ensure the release of 15 fishermen and 62 boats.
