Arrested for trying to burn effigies of Sushma, Rajapaksa

Some 15 workers of two organisations were arrested here today when they attempted to burn the effigies of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa for different reasons.

Seven activists of Adi Tamilar Peravai were taken into custody when they attempted to burn the effigy of Sushma Swaraj for her announcement to make Bhagawad Gita the National Scripture, police said.

They raised slogans against Sushma.

Meanwhile eight persons, belonging to Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhakam were arrested for burning the effigy of Rajapaksa protesting against his visit to Tirupati, police said.
