Arrested lensman taken by crime branch police on custodial

A local court today allowed police to take Iswar Chandra Behera, the photographer of Chandipur Integrated Test Range (ITR) arrested on suspicion of having links with ISI, to custodial remand of Odisha police crime branch till Tuesday next.

The sessions court allowed police to take Behera on remand to its headquarters in Cuttack till Tuesday for interrogation.

The court ordered Behera to be produced again on Wednesday next. Behera was later taken to Cuttack crime branch headquarters for interrogation.

The Balasore police had arrested Behera last week on espionage charge, for having suspected links with ISI.

A top police officer said here Behera would be grilled by a special team of crime branch police to ascertain the sources of money that were credited to his bank accounts from various places, including that from Pakistan.
 

The team would also seek to track the callers who had been trying to establish contact with Behera over phone calling from a nine digit number, the officer said.

The official indicated that if the need for investigation arises, help and cooperation of Interpol could be sought.

Before his arrest last Friday, Behera, a native of Mayurbhanj district, was under close surveillance of the state police intelligence wing, the official said.

Behera used to send videos and photographs to his contacts suspected to be ISI agents, the official said.
