Punjab Transport Minister Ajit Singh Kohar, Irrigation Minister Janmeja Singh Sekhon and PWD Minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon collectively inaugurated the Rs 60 crore bridge.
Deputy Chief Minister of the state, Sukhbir Singh Badal, who was to inaugurate the bridge could not reach the spot as his chopper did not land due to heavy rains in the area.
The project had started on February 15, 2010 and was completed in two-and-a-half year, sources said.
Constructed on Sultanpur Lodhi-Makhu Road, the bridge was a demand of the people of area, a spokesman said.
The high-level bridge is 721.24 meter long, which has 19 spans of 37.96 inch each and was 22 meter wide with a carriage way of 7.5 meter and footpaths of 1.5 meters on both sides.
The approach to the bridge from Sultanpur side was 575 meter long and from Makhu side it was 960 meters long.
Speaking to the media persons, the ministers said that the SAD-BJP government has taken major initiative to upgrade road infrastructure in the state investing more than Rs 25,000 crore into a series of ambitious projects aimed at improving the efficiency of road transport network.
They said that "during last five years, we focused on infrastructure revamp in Punjab, covering over 13,000 kms and involving major four-laning, six-laning, widening and up-gradation of all key transport arteries in the state."
Answering a query, Dhillon said that the state government has spent Rs 1,500 crore for upgrading and strengthening 4,000 kms road network whereas 5,800 Kms new link roads have been constructed at the cost of Rs 810 crore.
As many as 12,066 Kms link roads have been repaired at the cost of Rs 1,030 crore, he said.
