A medical physician by profession Baljesh Jindal is an artist by choice.

Baljesh, whose paintings adorn the walls of numerous prominent art collectors within the country and abroad is putting up an five-day exhibition of her works here beginning March 15.

Titled "Rhythm of Elements," the show combines paintings drawings as well as sculpture and is presented by the NGO Routes2Routes.

"The show is all about the harmony between five elements of nature and the human body and soul," says Baljesh who has has been painting for the past twenty years.

Even though she has had many group and solo shows in Delhi and many cities inside and outside India, she says she generally refrains from giving her paintings titles.

"A word, or a phrase, can never truly articulate the emotion of my work. I prefer to add a verse to accompany my paintings," says Baljesh.

The Delhi-based doctor-artist has honed her skills with the palette knife and her works have a very rich texture and luminosity.

So why would a doctor feel the need to paint?

"I ask why not? It is most natural for a doctor to feel the need to express herself when one is inundated with so much suffering, so much misery, so much observation of the human race.

"Watching the best of people fall to the lowest depths and the worst of them rise to saintly levels of goodness. The mind is numbed by questions and doubts and then all one can do is turn to art," she says.
