It is the sheer power of eyes to be able to convey so much more than words, that has driven artist Dipak Kumar Ghosh to bring alive people's emotions on his canvas.

A collection of 60 portraits by Ghosh of renowned personalities like Mother Teresa, Barack Obama, Rabindranath Tagore among others can be viewed at an upcoming exhibition at the Indira Gandhi Art Gallery here.

For the artist, portraits reflect "the different faces and phases of life".

Influenced deeply by the emotions he witnesses around himself, Ghosh's artistic focus inadvertently settles on an individual's eyes as they convey a certain intimacy.

"I believe that eyes are the reflection of soul. Even in the briefest moments, they can speak volumes," Ghosh says.

His reproduction of the piercing gazes of personalities like Swami Vivekananda, Albert Einstein, Sri Ramakrishna, and former Indian President A P J Abdul Kalam are striking.

The artist brings to life plethora of emotions in a wide range of media -- from pencil and charcoal to acrylics, paint and oil pastels.

"Every stroke in every work of art is important in the bigger picture, and the time and effort I've invested in each and every portrait and sketch and painting of mine makes all of them special to me," Ghosh says.

To make his art more palatable and accessible, Ghosh also upgrades his works digitally.

The exhibition will be held from February 3 to February 8.
