After nearly 16 months, elite Special Protection Group (SPG) today got its new Director with Government appointing Arun Kumar Sinha as the new head of the force which guards the Prime Minister and other VVIPs.
The name of Sinha, a 1987 batch IPS officer of Kerala cadre, was cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to the order, 52-year-old Sinha has been appointed with an initial tenure of two years from the date of joining the post. He is at present in his cadre state.

Vivek Srivastava, an IPS officer of 1989 batch of Gujarat cadre was looking after the SPG, after K Durga Prasad, a 1981-batch Andhra Pradesh-cadre IPS officer, was moved out on November 25 in 2014.
Srivastava was inducted into SPG on deputation from the Intelligence Bureau in December 2014 and his tenure is to end in October this year.
He will be reporting back to the IB after completion of his extended tenure.
