The Arunachal Pradesh assembly today paid tributes to former members who passed away recently.
Speaker Nabum Rebia and Chief Minister Nabam Tuki led the House in remembering former Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin, former minister and Speaker Setong Sena, former minister Sobeng Tayang and former Union minister Murli Deora.
While Gamlin died in a Gurgaon-based private hospital on November 30 last, Tayeng passed away on January 24, Sena on Sunday last and Deora died on November 24 last year.
Making obituary reference in the House Rebia termed all the leaders as visionaries and termed their deaths as 'irreparable losses' to the state as well as the country.
Tuki taking part in the discussion termed Gamlin as a law luminary and visionary who had immensely contributed to the state.
Terming Tayeng as a man with a mission who shaped the destiny of present Arunachal, the chief minister informed that the departed leader was instrumental in expansion of education besides conceiving the idea of VLW (village level worker) and launching minor irrigation channels in the state.
While recalling the contribution of Sena, who served the state as assembly speaker and ministers in various capacities, Tuki termed him as a man of wisdom who lead from the front and left behind a legacy to emulate.
"Sena's persistent efforts enabled due recognition across the globe to the World War-II war cemetery at Jairampur in Changlang district ... He was also instrumental in speeding up economic activities in the state through border trade at Pangsau Pass by organizing the Pangsau Pass winter festival on several occasions," the chief minister said.
He further added, under Sena, the Agriculture department got due recognition from the Centre due to increase in foodgrains productivity in the past few years and the state received Krishi Karman Commendation Award for three consecutive years.
Tuki also made obituary reference in terms of Deora, former Petroleum and Natural Gas minister in the UPA-I government.
A two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed leaders before Speaker Rebia adjourned the House.
