Arunachal cabinet endorses letter written by CM to HM

The Arunachal Pradesh cabinet today endorsed the letter written by Chief Minister Pema Khandu to Union Home minister Rajnath Singh on the issue of granting citizenship to Chakma and Hajong refugees.

The cabinet took note of the letter written by Khandu to Singh on September 18 last on issue of granting citizenship to Chakma and Hajong refugees and unanimously endorsed the firm stand taken by the chief minister, state government spokesman Bamang Felix informed in a statement.

Khandu in the letter to Singh had said, "The matter is of deep emotional concern and that the state is not ready to accept any infringement of the Constitutional protection bestowed on the tribals of the state.
 

"The chief minister had solicited the Home Ministers support in protecting the tribal rights and securing the sanctity of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state."

The cabinet meeting which was chaired my Khandu reaffirmed that the rights of indigenous people of the state will not be compromised at any cost as the rights are inviolable and are enshrined in the Constitution of India and protected by various laws enacted from time to time.

The cabinet also approved operationalisation of the long pending Lower Siang district and approved Likabali as the temporary headquarter of the newly created district and a DC and SP to be posted immediately.

The new district would include assembly segments of Likabali, Basar and Nari Koyu.

The operationalisation of the Lower Siang district was approved on the condition that status quo shall be maintained in respect of Kora Circle till an amicable solution is arrived after detailed consultation with stakeholders.

Further, the cabinet approved exclusion of Depi, Depimoli and Detak from Lower Siang district, the spokesman said.

In another decision, the cabinet approved the Bill for creation of new Kamle district to be tabled in the ensuing Assembly Session scheduled in October, the statement added.
