Arunachal CM, Army official discuss land acquisition issues

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and a top Army official today discussed a wide range of issues, including defence land acquisition in the state.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 4 Corps Lt Gen Gurpal Singh Sangha, who assumed charge recently, called on Khandu at his office here, an official release said.

Issues relating to the establishment of an Army cantonment here were also discussed, it said.

The state government had requested the defence ministry for setting up of an Army cantonment here, and accordingly the ministry had approved it in principle.

The Tezpur-based 4 Corps has finalised land near Rakap village in Sangdupota circle under Papum Pare district. The Army, however, had requested the Arunachal Pradesh government to provide an additional 700 acres for the cantonment, the release said.
 

"The area finalised for the Army cantonment is directly connected to National Highway-415," the state's Land Management Minister Nabam Rebia said, adding, additional land required for the cantonment would be made available.

Besides, acquiring of land for an ammunition depot at Gumto were discussed during a meeting with Army officials and Rebia, the release added.
