Arunachal District Planning Committee amendment bill passed

Arunachal Pradesh Assembly passed the Arunachal Pradesh District Planning Committee (Amendment) Bill, 2014 today, paving way for panchayats and municipalities to participate in the planning process in the districts.

The bill, passed through voice vote, was introduced in the House on July 25 by Town Planning and Urban Local Bodies Minister Pema Khandu and is aimed at constituting the district planning committee and consolidating the plan prepared by the panchayats and municipalities in the districts.

"The Bill aims at preparing five-year prospective plan and draft development plan for the districts," Khandu said making a statement in the House today.

He said there was proposal in the bill to make zila parishads chairperson the chairperson of district planning committees in place of deputy commissioners.
 

"This amendment will ensure integrated and effective development of urban and rural areas by involving people in the process of development at grass root level through a democratic system," he added.
