"In 2010, state government set up special task forces in each district to detect and identify illegal migrants. Detention cells have been established in every district and checking of inner line permits have been intensified to check influx of outsiders," he said in the assembly while speaking on a private member resolution (PMR) moved by NCP member Bamang Felix.
Felix said that illegal migration from Bangladesh has become a serious problem not only for Assam but for the entire North-East region.
Chief minister Tuki said that DIG (Intelligence) has been appointed as state nodal officer to monitor illegal migrants and their repartition.
"The state is protected under relevant laws like Bengal Frontier Regulation Act," he said.
He said whatever migrants available in the state were being hired by locals as domestic servants.
He appealed the people to be vigilant while appointing such people and inform the police accordingly for future records.
Felix earlier said that the Centre had earlier decided to deport at least 3000 Bangladeshis every month.
"But towards the end of April this year, it took a U-turn as the union Home Ministry has decided to do a rethink on the policy as it felt the deportation exercise was 'un-implementable'," Felix said.
