Arunachal Governor flags off expedition to Mt Everest

Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma today flagged off an expedition to the Mount Everest by a lady mountaineer from the state Anshu Jamsenpa at Raj Bhawan here.

Ace mountaineer Jamsenpa, who is also a mother of two girls, scaled the world's highest peak three times earlier including a double ascent within 10 days in May 2011.

She is attempting a double ascent of Mt Everest for the second time.

A Raj Bhawan communique said, flagging off the expedition, the Governor conveyed his wishes to Jamsenpa on behalf of the people of the state and expressed confidence that with her climbing experience and capability, she would come back successful and become the only mountaineer in the world to do two double ascents.
 

Sharma also expressed optimism that such sporting events would encourage the youth to sports, especially adventure sports for which the state has huge potential.

The Governor also flagged off two successful mountaineering expeditions - Everest Expedition during 2011 and Indian Mountaineering Foundation Expedition to Mount Gourichen in Arunachal Pradesh during 2012.
