The Arunachal Pradesh government will set up a state-of-the-art Martyrs Memorial at Itanagar in memory of those soldiers killed while fighting the Chinese Army in 1962.
While the blueprint of the proposed memorial has been prepared by experts was ready for execution, the construction would start soon, an official communique said here today.
It may be mentioned that Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki had announced construction of the Martyrs Memorial at the state capital on November 25, 2013 while attending 'Sarhad ko Swaranjali' programme organised by North East unit of Sansakar Bharati as a mark of respect to those soldiers and villagers who sacrificed their lives during the Sino-India war.
Project consultant Maj Gen (Retd) K V S Lalotra, project director Maj Gen (Retd) H K Singh and architect Abhimanyu Dalal gave a detailed presentation to the Chief Minister, who suggested giving a traditional touch to the memorial by depicting various communities of the state, the statement said.
Tuki also suggested for constituting a core team to look after the construction work, its management and periodic maintenance of the memorial, it said.
Saluting the bravery and patriotism of the soldiers, the Chief Minister said "Sitting on the lap of the Himalayas, we are the first to resist any force against India. If any enemy eyes India through North East, Arunachal Pradesh will stand against it first, like in the 1962 Sino-India war."
"Arunachal owes its respect to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sovereignty of the country," he said.
The monument would take almost a year to complete and would be one of the most attractive places of visit in the state capital, the communique added.
