In the wake of pressure from various quarters, the Arunachal Pradesh government has put under suspension former SP of Tirap district Jasmeet Singh on charge of manhandling a BJP leader without any provocation on May 16 last.
Deputy Chief Minister Kameng Dolo in a statement said that the government would not allow disturbing the peace and tranquillity of the state because of 'wrong conduct' of any responsible law keeper.
Urging the people to maintain calm and peace, Dolo, who also holds the Home portfolio, said Jasmeet Singh has been put under immediate suspension as a disciplinary proceeding initiated against him for his alleged wrong conduct.

There was a growing demand for the former SP's scalp from civil society, including the All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU), Arunachal Citizen Rights (ACR), for the alleged manhandling of a senior citizen.
Earlier, immediately after the incident, Dolo had transferred Singh to police headquarters here.
