Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma today advised the 'Core Group' on security to have better coordination and synergy among various agencies keeping in view the state's strategic importance.

Underscoring the need to do more introspection, while inaugurating the state-level Core Group meeting here, the Governor asked the members to suggest means to improve the security scenario.

"The writ of the state must be felt and there should be no hurdle in enforcing the law or implementing the programmes of the state. If we want to develop Arunachal to its potential, we have to ensure the rule of law prevails and societal indifference must be expunged," he stressed.

The Governor called for upgradation of intelligence gathering and enhancing professionalism in the personnel, including proper management of constabulary and training.

Sharma emphasised that security officers and personnel must involve in the positive engagement of community and youth where they serve.

Addressing the participants Chief Minister Nabam Tuki said the activities of the militants were impediments to the economic development of the state.

"All government development works like installation of hydro-electric projects, construction of highways, tourism, establishment of educational institution and hospitals are slowed down. Private investment in various enterprises is discouraged. Hence, they are potential threats to the state and national security," he said.

The Chief Minister said the state government has been following a multi-pronged approach to deal with the challenges, including development, dedicated recruitment drive, enhancing security infrastructure and presence of forces, rather than to regulate the situation by use of force only.

State home minister Tanga Byaling, Parliamentary Secretary (Home) Likha Saaya and DGP S Nithianandam also spoke on the inaugural session.

In the plenary session, Principal Secretary (Home) Dharmendra Sharma, General Officer Commanding of 4 Corps and 3 Corps Lt General Sarath Chand and Lt General Bipin Rawat deliberated on security related issues.

Representatives from ITBP, SSB, CRPF and the Assam Police also attended the meeting.
