Arvind Kejriwal sworn-in as NDMC member

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and two others today took oath as member of the New Delhi Municipal Council.

NDMC chairperson Jalaj Srivastava administered the oath of membership to Kejriwal, who then administered the oath to Delhi Cantonment MLA Surinder Singh and Secretary of Directorate of Education Punya Salila Srivastava at a Council meeting here.

According to NDMC Act, MLAs from New Delhi and Delhi Cantonment constituencies automatically become members of the New Delhi Municipal Council. Once the Union Home Ministry notifies the NDMC of the appointment, the members are officially sworn in.

Kejriwal congratulated the civic body for doing good work and assured his support.
 

"NDMC's has both kinds of areas under its jurisdictions where VVIPs live and where common man lives. I urge you to focus equally on all the areas," he said at the swearing-in function.

The chief minister was later given a presentation on the functioning of NDMC, its hierarchy and brief about its various departments.

NDMC area comprises of the territory that has been described as Lutyen's Delhi and which has historically come to be regarded as the seat of central authority in India.

It comprises of important buildings like Rashtrapati Bhawan, Parliament House, Supreme Court, North and South Blocks and buildings abutting Central Vista and also all the diplomatic missions which function as territorial entities under the sovereign jurisdiction of their Flag States.
