Press Trust of India Guwahati
Asam Sahitya Sabha, the premier literary organisation of the state, today hailed the Allahabad High Court's directive to the Uttar Pradesh government to ensure that wards of government officials and public representatives go to government schools.

"This is a historic judgement and Assam should also implement it immediately along with the rest of the states in the country," Sabha General Secretary Parmananda Rajbongshi said in a statement here today.

The judgement is very important in the prevailing scenario and its implementation would go a long way in strengthening the educational system of the state, which is plagued by several ills, he said.

Assam's MPs, ministers, legislators, government officials and employees should also adopt it as this would lead to an improvement of government educational institutions which are in a pathetic state now, Rajbongshi added.

The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday had taken serious note of the pathetic condition of primary schools in the state.

The Court had issued directions to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary to ensure that children/wards of government officials/servants, those serving in the local bodies, representatives of people and judiciary, etc. Send their wards to these schools as only then they would be serious enough to look into the requirements of these schools and ensure they were run in good condition.
