The Upadhyay community here has threatened to boycott the assembly by-election for Muzaffarnagar seat if their demand for a Rs 30 lakh compensation to the family of a health worker who was gangraped is not met.

The president of the state Upadhyay Samaj, N R Upadhyay, said the government should provide a compensation of Rs 30 lakh to the victim's family and a job to one of her family members.

Failing which the community members would boycott the election slated for February 13, he said here last evening.

A Panchayat of the community would be convened at Chapra village on February 13 to decide the further course of action, Upadhyay said.

A 40-year-old married ASHA health worker at Chapra village was allegedly raped by four persons, who also circulated her objectionable video on social media, leading her to commit suicide on January 13.
