Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers are being paid incentives on performance basis for rendering different services under National Rural Health Mission, Minister of State for Health Shabir Khan said today.

The incentives for ASHA workers are revised every year as per guidelines and approval of Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, government of India, Khan said in reply to a calling attention motion in the Assembly.

Unsatisfied with the government reply, CPI(M) member Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami told reporters that the services of ASHA workers remained unrecognised in Jammu and Kashmir owing to lack of government attention.

The Jammu and Kashmir government must take a cue from the Kerala government which has not only cleared all dues to ASHA workers but raised their monthly honorarium to Rs 600 per month, the CPI(M) leader said.

He urged the government to provide a monthly genuine honorarium to these workers, who essentially act as backbone of the health structure in rural areas of the state.
