Ashok Leyland, Engine Factory donate for cyclone relief

: Ashok Leyland of Hinduja group and Engine Factory, Avadi, near here, Friday donated Rs three crore and Rs 5 lakh respectively to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund towards rehabilitation work in cyclone Gaja-affected districts of Tamil Nadu.

Chairman of Ashok Leyland Dheeraj Hinduja handed over a cheque for Rs 3 crore to Chief Minister K Palaniswami at the Secretariat, a press release said.

Similarly, the 1,300 employees of the Engine Factory, a defence production unit, contributed Rs five lakh from their salaries to the relief fund, the release said.

General manager of the factory Anil Kumar handed over a cheque for Rs 5 lakh to Palaniswami, it added.

 

The cyclone hit the coast near Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam district on November 16, claiming over 50 lives besides leaving a trail of destruction in 10 districts.
