Maharashtra government today said that grants for the 288 ashram shalas (boarding school for tribal children) and schools for physically challenged students in the state would be cleared soon.

Minister of State for Social Justice Dilip Kamble assured the Legislative Council that the issue of grants to all these schools, has been pending since 2000 and that only A and B category residential schools will be considered for grants.

Vikram Kale, a legislator from the Teacher's Constituency raised the issue in the Council through Calling attention motion.

Kamble told the Upper House that the schools had been examined by the District Collectors last month. "However, those schools that had opposed the Collector's inspection then will be examined now," he said.

The Minister said that the state would crack down on bogus schools and no approvals or grants would be given to them by the state government.
