"Moonlight" actor Ashton Sanders is in negotiations to star in the film adaptation of the "Native Son".

The 22-year-old actor is being considered for the role of Thomas in the film, reported Variety.

"Love, Simon" Nick Robinson is also in talks for a role in the film. He will join Margaret Qualley, KiKi Layne and Bill Camp in the cast.

The novel, written by Richard Wright, follows a poor, 20-year-old black Chicagoan, Bigger Thomas, as he takes a job as a chauffeur for the wealthy, white Dalton family. When Thomas accidentally commits an act of violence against a member of the family, he engages in an elaborate cover-up scheme that begets more crimes.

Rashid Johnson is attached to the project as the director, while "Black Swan" cinematographer Matthew Libatique will be the director of photography.
