The Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology, Environment and Forests Ashwani Kumar today visited Pathankot to review the status of environment in the region and assess various other issues.

He expressed concern over increasing pollution in the area and insisted that green cover be increased in the region for which necessary directions were issued.

The former Law minister said that there is a large reservoir of plants in the area which should be commercialised, and by this way, people of the region can derive benefit from natural resources.

The effect of climate change came up during the deliberations, like receding of glaciers, flash floods, soil erosion, the attack of locust, drying up of lakes, rise of temperature in water bodies, as they have huge consequences for the ecology and economy of the area.

Kumar also held a meeting with NGOs and heard their grievances.
