An Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Police who had allegedly beaten up a truck driver in Nadia district was closed (taken off from active policing duty), a senior police officer said today.
"We have closed ASI Prabir Halder, the in charge of Badkullaha out post for misbehaving with a truck driver," said Superintendent of Police of Nadia, Arnab Ghosh.
Vivek Debnath, a truck driver was returning from Santhia to Badkullaha with sand in his truck. He had stopped his truck at Kadamtala along the Ranaghat-Krishnagar bypass today to talk to the truck owner to know where to unload the sand. While he was starting his truck, Prabir Halder allegedly started to beat him up severely.
Debnath was injured and rushed to Badkullaha hospital. Later on he was referred to Shaktinagar hospital.
The local people blocked the road for about two hours m demanding the punishment of the police officer.
