Vigilance sleuths today caught an ASI red handed while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from Bihar's Muzaffarpur district.

Vigilance sleuths arrested Abbu Abaid, an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) posted at Kazi Mohammadpur police station of Muzaffarpur, while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000, a Vigilance department release said.

One Vikas Kumar, a resident of Ratnauli village under Maniari police station of the district, had lodged a complaint with the Vigilance Investigation Bureau that ASI Abbu Abaid was demanding a bribe of Rs 20,000 for helping him in a case.

After verifying the complaint, vigilance constituted a flying squad team headed by Deputy SP Munna Prasad who raided and arrested the ASI while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from his shop located at Aghoriya Bazar in Muzaffarpur town.

The ASI would be produced before a special Vigilance court at Muzaffarpur tomorrow after his interrogation.

Altogether 46 accused persons have been arrested in 42 trap cases laid by the Vigilance so far in 2016.
