ASI, head constable dismissed for shielding drug peddler

An Assistant Sub Inspector and a head constable in the district were dismissed for allegedly extending patronage to a drug peddler, police said here today.

In a departmental inquiry ASI Punjab Singh and head constable Karam Singh were found to be shielding a drug peddler and subsequently both were dismissed from the service, Batala SSP H S Sandhu said.

Both the suspended cops were absconding, the SSP added.

On May 21 after getting a tip-off, police arrested the drug peddler Rajbir Singh resident of village Aimma and recovered 95 grams heroin and 860 grams narcotic powder from his possession.

During questioning, the accused confessed that few days back also he was caught with heroin but the ASI and the head constable left him after he paid Rs 45000 to them, the police said.
 

Later, he involved both the cops with him and started doing drug business again, the police added.
