Bureau (VIB) today arrested a police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) on graft charge from Bihar's Muzaffarpur district.

Acting on a complaint, a VIB team laid a trap and caught ASI Bhagwan Mumru red-headed accepting Rs 5000 from Dashrath Sah in a hotel near Muzaffarpur railway station, ADG Vigilance, Ravindra Kumar said.

Sah had complained to the VIB that the ASI, posted at Ahiyapur police station, demanded a bribe of Rs 5000 for submitting papers related to a confiscated vehicle in a court, he said.

An investigation was launched and the allegation was found to be true, following which the trap was laid, Kumar said.

The VIB has laid 38 traps against corrupt public servants and arrested 40 persons so far this year, he said.
