ASI murder: NCSC asks senior cops to submit report by April 3

Taking suo moto cognisance of the gunning down of an ASI of Punjab Police, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes today directed SSP, DM of Kapurthala district and Jalandhar division IG to submit a report in this regard by April 3.

"Notices have been issued to Jalandhar IG, Kapurthala SSP, DM to submit a detailed report on the killing of the senior official of Punjab Police by tomorrow, " Raj Kumar Verka, vice-chairman of NCSC, told reporters here.

Gurdev Singh (50) was on traffic patrol duty when he confronted a person, who was allegedly taking drugs inside a hotel and was shot dead while chasing him on March 31.
 

On a query that the victim was not a Dalit, Verka said," The Commission has the powers to deal with the cases related to people from the backward and Anglo-Indian community".
