A 48-year-old assistant sub-inspector was today electrocuted after he accidentally came in contact with a high-tension power in Rajasthan's Jhalawar district, police said.

Kamal Singh, an ASI posted at the Kotra police check post, succumbed to his injuries on way to a hospital, Station House Officer at the Pedawa police station Rambharose Meena said.

The incident occurred around 9.30 AM when the ASI was on his way to search a warrantee. He was inquiring about him at a tea stall on the roadside in Kotra village when electric supply to the high-tension power line pole near him was restored and he accidentally came in contact with it, the SHO said.

The ASI collapsed on the spot and was rushed to the Pedawa community health centre but he succumbed to his injuries on the way, he said.

The body was handed over to his family after postmortem, the SHO said, adding that an investigation into the matter was underway.

A case under Section 174 of CrPC was lodged in this connection, the SHO said.
