ASI shot dead by militants in Anantnag

An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police was today killed when militants fired upon him in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, police said.

Militants fired at and injured ASI Abdul Rashid, who was on duty without a weapon, at Mehandi Kadal in Anantnag this afternoon, a police official said.

He said the policeman received bullet injury in his abdomen and was rushed to district hospital Anantnag, from where he was referred to Army's 92 base hospital at Badamibagh cantonment here for specialised treatment.

However, despite efforts by doctors at the hospital, Rashid succumbed to injuries, the official said.
