Actor Asia Argento has mourned the death of her boyfriend Anthony Bourdain, the celebrity chef and food critic who committed suicide in a hotel in France.

The 42-year-old actor said she is "beyond devastated" after the death of "my love, my rock, my protector".

"Anthony gave all of himself in everything he did," Argento said in a statement she shared on Twitter.

"His brilliant, fearless spirit touched and inspired so many, and his generosity knew no bounds. He was my love, my rock, my protector. I am beyond devastated. My thoughts are with his family. I would ask that you respect their privacy and mine," she added.

Bourdain and the Italian actor started dating in 2017 after meeting on the sets of the Rome episode of his show "Parts Unknown".

CNN, which aired the series, reported that the cause of his death was suicide. Bourdain was in Strasbourg, France, to shoot for the new season of the show.

The TV personality's friend, French chef, Eric Ripert, had found him unresponsive in his hotel room.

Bourdain's suicide is the second in less than a week by a renowned public figure after fashion designer Kate Spade killed herself by hanging.
