The Asiatic Society has selected renowned Professor Indra Nath for the 2016 Rabindranath Tagore Birth Centenary Plaque for his contribution to Indian literature and Tagore.
The Asiatic Society will also award plaques, medals and scholarships for lectureships to a number of eminent persons of the country.
Among other awardees, theatre personality Sova Sen will be awarded the Priyabrata Roy Memorial Gold Medal while Dr Kapila Vatsyayan has been nominated for the Indira Gandhi Gold Plaque, Society secretary Dr Satyabrata Chakrabarti told reporters here today.

Sukumar Sen Memorial Gold Medal will be given to Professor Dr Arun Kumar Basu for his outstanding contribution in academic field while Professor Binoy Bhusan Choudhuri will get the Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar Gold Plaque for his contribution to the field of Contemporary Social Activities.
Other eminent awardees include Professor Upendra Baxi (Dr Naresh Chandra Sengupta Gold Medal) for his outstanding contribution in the field of Society and Law in Ancient and Medieval India, Professor Bipin Goswami (Prasanta Roy and Gita Roy Memorial Gold Medal) for his contribution in the field of Lalit Kala.
Former Prasar Bharati CEO Jawhar Sircar has been named for Dr Biman Behari Memorial Lectureship, Professor Debi Prasanna Pattanayak (Professor Suniti Kumar Chatterji Memorial Lectureship) for his outstanding contribution in the field of Linguistics.
