The year-long platinum jubilee celebrations of the Assam Legislative Assembly today came to an end with the address of Governor J B Patnaik.
Addressing the members, Patnaik called for joint efforts to meet various challenges confronting the state.
"Assam has successfully faced many crises and challenges in the past. Even now there are many challenges -- ethnic, economic and development-related -- which the members must resolve unitedly," the Governor said.

"I am fully confident that the members of this Assembly would continue to do so in the future", Patnaik added.
Speaker Pranab Kumar Gogoi also highlighted important milestones in the history of the Assam assembly.
Revenue Minister Prithibi Majhi, quoting country's first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, called upon the people's representatives to exhibit tolerance and uphold the ideals of democracy.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Nilamoni Sen Deka urged the young MLAs to emulate the efforts and good work of their predecessors for the progress of Assam.
Principal Secretary G P Das, in his welcome address, gave a brief outline of the birth of Assam Assembly.
