Joon got the second position with a cash prize of Rs one lakh and a citation in the Senior Male Black Belt Kumite event organised by the World Sunakoshi Sutukan Karate Organisation, Sri Lanka.
The two-day Championship was held from October 14 at Kandy in Colombo.
Mridu hailing from Jorhat in upper Assam represented the country along with another fellow Assam participant Manas Kumar Nath from Morigaon district.
Joon was accorded a warm welcome here on his victorious return and felicitated by various organisations,including the Upper Assam Chamber of Commerce, Jorhat Youth Congress, Assam School of Sports Karate Association, etc.
