Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today directed Deputy Commissioners of districts affected by rice swarming caterpillars to personally inspect and assess the damage caused to farm lands with the District Agricultural Officers concerned.
The state has been severely affected by rice swarming caterpillars, which have destroyed paddy spread over thousands of hectares in ten districts and the Chief Minister has directed the Deputy Commissioners to take necessary action to control the problem.
Sonowal said in a statement that the state government has taken the matter seriously and all efforts have been made for swift and immediate action to control the situation.
"The Deputy Commissioners have been directed to go for field verification so that the caterpillar menace can be prevented from affecting more farming lands," he said.
