Dissatisfied with the Rs 15.23 lakh donated by major tea companies to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has decided to return the money.

A statement from the Chief Minister's Office said Gogoi was dissatisfied with the money recently donated to the fund by 25 major tea companies, under the Indian Tea Association, operating in the state.

"These tea companies are earning huge profits, utilising all benefits given by the state government and yet neglecting their contribution towards the development of the state and its people," the statement said.

So, the cheques were being sent back to the 25 companies, it said.

The donations made towards the CM's Relief Fund are utilised for treatment of cancer patients, poor and down-trodden in the state, the added.

The statement mentioned the names of the 25 tea companies and their contribution.

While the lowest contribution was Rs 6,675, the highest contribution was Rs 3,88,700.
