The group, consisting of 17 farmers and two village elders, left the state today on a tour of Ludhiana, Amritsar and Ferozepur, Defence PRO Lieutenant Colonel SS Phogat said in a statement issued here today.

He said the trip is intended to "broaden their horizon and perception about the country". The group will return to Assam on November 13.

The educational tour is being conducted under the aegis of the Army's Red Horns Division. It was flagged off this morning in a brief ceremony held at Udalguri which was attended by participants and several civil and defence personnel.
