Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said the state government is considering taking an initiative to create smart villages for inclusive growth and equal development of rural areas.
"Creating smart villages will lead to capacity building of rural population and decongestion of urban areas, which will again facilitate equal development of all areas of the state," Gogoi said during the felicitation function of winners of Mission Clean Guwahati Contest, 2014.
He advocated for creating health, education, entertainment, communication and employment avenues as prerequisites for creating smart villages, which should be in harmony with nature to give a boost to the ecosystem including the water bodies, hills and trees.

The Chief Minister also said city dwellers would be encouraged to sell garbage to the government as this would cut down the government's expenditure on cleaning as citizens would then collect and sell garbage to the government and not throw it around.
The function was organised by the CII, in association with Young Indians and Guwahati Municipal Corporation to award the best performing NGOs in the Mission Clean Guwahati Contest, 2014.
