Assam government today announced 20 per cent bonus to workers in tea gardens under the Assam Tea Corporation Limited (ATCL) on the occasion of Durga Puja Festival.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today directed the Industries and Commerce Department to dispense the payment of 20 per cent bonus to tea workers at the earliest, an official release said.

It may be mentioned that all workers of the state owned tea gardens under ATCL would be eligible for the bonus.

ATCL has 15 tea gardens with over 16,000 workers spread across the districts of Nagaon, Biswanath, Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Charaideo and Karimganj.

The gardens at present were undergoing massive facelift in nurseries, re-plantation, and the announcement of 20 per cent bonus along with the decision to immediately release the entire amount, would surely serve as a morale booster for the workers, the release added.
