The Assam government has declared April 9 as a local holiday in Dhemaji district as the by-election to the Dhemaji assembly constituency will he held on that day.
The Assam government has also declared the day as a paid public holiday, a state government release said.
The government declaration will be applicable to offices of the state and Central government, public sector undertakings (PSU), corporations, boards, banks and educational institutions, it said.

The by-election to the Dhemaji assembly constituency was necessitated as BJP MLA Pradan Baruah vacated the seat after he was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Lakhimpur seat.
