Assam government today said it has started work on seven large drinking water projects for rural areas at an expenditure of Rs 1,474 crore which will be supported by the World Bank.
"Assam government has initiated the process of undertaking seven large multi-village schemes with a total outlay of Rs 1,474 crore for providing drinking water to rural areas with World Bank support," an official release said here.
The government will also construct 1,100 piped water supply schemes at an earmarked outlay of Rs 550 cores for rural areas.
In the last 14 years, 4,798 rural pipe water supply schemes have been completed by the state government, covering 74,000 families, the statement said.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said a new Bill on water conservation will be passed in the Assembly.
An official release said Gogoi has emphasised proper utilisation of water resources as the state is dependent on agriculture.
