The Assam government today said it will raise the issue of proposed closing of All India Radio's Dibrugarh news division with the Centre.
Replying to the issue raised by BJP MLA Hitendra Nath Goswami in the Assembly, Parliamentary Affairs minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said "It is a serious matter. We will take it up with Government of India as a matter of priority."
Earlier Goswami said abolishing or restructuring 12 regional AIR stations was not a right move by the Centre.
"This will affect regional news bulletins, which has a large listener base in rural areas. In fact, Radio has more penetration than TV. This decision needs to be reviewed," he said.
