Assam Guv asks police to make border watch posts functional

Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi today asked state Additional Director General of Police (Border) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta to make all the watch posts of Assam Police Border Organisation (APBO) functional by July 31.

Mukhi took suo motu cognizance of reports appeared in a section of the media that 39 out of 159 watch posts of the APBO are non-functional.

"He (Mukhi) asked ADGP (Border) to look into the issue and lend his intervention for capacity building of the watch posts immediately," a Raj Bhavan release said.

The Governor asked Mahanta to engage his men and machinery to make all the watch posts functional by July 31 and submit an action taken report.

 

Taking a serious note on the news reports about non-functionality of the watch posts, Mukhi called Mahanta to Raj Bhavan to discuss the status of the border outposts, the statement said.

A total of 159 watch posts are located in infiltration prone areas of 20 districts of Assam to conduct survey in these areas, the website of the Assam Police said.

The APBO personnel are posted in all the districts of Assam for detection and deportation of illegal foreigners and to prevent them from entering into the state from across the Indo-Bangladesh Border, the website said.
