Assam Guv, CM greet people on the occasion of Eid

Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today conveyed their greetings to people of the state on occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

In his message to the people, Purohit said: "Eid-ul-Fitr literally means 'festival of breaking the fast'.

The festival is celebrated based on an Islamic belief by following the norm of social practice.

Eid-Ul-Fitr teaches us about compassion and love for fellow beings.

"The Governor said that the festival is also an occasion for happiness and merrymaking, which is marked by the spirit of universal brotherhood.

He hoped that this auspicious occasion would further strengthen the bonds of communal harmony, brotherhood and usher in a period of sustained peace, progress and prosperity.
 

In a statement, Sonowal wished happiness and prosperity to the people saying that Eid-ul-Fitr symbolises amity, fraternity and harmony.

"Eid-ul-Fitr is also the day of sharing happiness and joy with the needy and poor.

"This auspicious occasion will be the harbinger of peace, progress, prosperity and happiness, and will strengthen the bonds of communal harmony, brotherhood and amity amongst the people of the state," he added.

Greeting the people on this occasion, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Ripun Bora hope that the festivity will bring in peace, happiness and prosperity for all.
