Assam health department geared up for post-flood scenario

Assam's Health and Family Welfare department was providing immediate medical care in the relief camps and was also geared up to combat any outbreak of epidemics in the post-flood scenario.

Principal Secretary, Health and Welfare department, was constantly monitoring the availability of doctors and medicines along with other medical support needed in the flood - affected districts, an official release said here today.

The Regional Additional Directors have also been put on field duty to monitor the work of medical teams.

A round-the-clock control room was functioning in the office of the Director of Health Services to monitor the situation, the release said.
 

The department has sanctioned funds to augment the availability of medicines and Director of Health Services has been directed to procure all necessary medicines and inputs.

Disease Surveillance and Accredited social health activists (ASHA) network were activated to report outbreak of diseases.

Arrangements have been made in association with the Public Health department to decontaminate the drinking water sources, the release said.

Spraying of DDT and bleaching powder would also be undertaken to prevent public health hazards.

The School Health Programme authorities have also been asked to prepare for medical checkups.

The administrations of the affected districts have been asked to step up efforts to create awareness on disease prevention by the public, it said.

The services of doctors of Medical Colleges have been sought to take care of any emergency situation.
