Senior Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been accorded a 'Z' category security cover of paramilitary commandos by the Centre.
A senior official in the security establishment said a contingent of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) commandos would now accompany the Assam Health and Finance Minister on his every visit within the state.
The contingent had already taken charge of the BJP leader's security, he added.

The decision to accord the VIP security cover to Sarma was taken after the central security intelligence agencies submitted a report to the Union home ministry, underlining the "threat" to him.
As per the 'Z' category security protocol, around 10-12 commandos would accompany the Assam minister whenever he travels within the state.
A CRPF pilot car would also accompany Sarma, who is also the convenor of the ruling NDA in the north-east.
Recently, the top 'Z+' category security cover of CRPF commandos was accorded by the home ministry to Kerala-based spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi.
