Assam has an outstanding debt burden of Rs 38,345.77 crore as on March, as per pre-actual estimates for the fiscal 2016-17, state Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said today.
Replying to a query in the state Assembly, Sarma said the per capita debt burden stood at Rs 11,147 as per the estimates.
He said interest on borrowings from different sources varied from year to year, and the 2016-17 pre-actual interest amount was Rs 2,963.75 crore.
