She was speaking at a programme where Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi released acclaimed Assamese film-maker Jahnu Barua's latest movie 'Baandhon' (Waves of Silence).

Gogoi, who took the initiative in arranging finance for the film by the Assam State Film (Finance and Development) Corporation (ASFFDCL), said, "The government has to step in to revive the film industry which is passing through a difficult phase."

He hoped the film would turn the wheels of fortune for the state film industry which was passing through an acute funds crunch.

"There is no dearth of talent in the film industry. But due to funds crunch and dwindling viewership the Assamese film industry has been in a deep quagmire," Phukan noted.

Barua hoped the movie would get the kind of support from the filmgoers the Assamese film industry was looking forward to.

Barua introduced some of the cast and crew members of the film, including actors Bishnu Khargoria, Jatin Bora and Zarifa Wahid.

ASFFDCL chairperson and actress Bobbeeta Sharma said that 'Baandhon' had been selected as the opening feature film of the Indian Panorama section at the upcoming 43rd International Film Festival of India at Goa from November 20 to 30.

The ASFFDCL has embarked on the project for production of films after a gap of nearly 11 years with its first film being "Nishidha Nadi" produced in 2000, Sharma said.
